2009 Swimming/Diving Meet Information, Rules


NOTE
: This meet will be conducted under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association and the 2009-10 NFHS Swimming and Diving Rules Book and as an Observed meet under Southeastern Swimming, Inc., of United States Swimming (if approved).
 
ELIGIBILITY: All participants must be eligible under AHSAA rules. Only high school varsity
teams and individuals representing high schools are eligible for the state meet. All participants in any meet must be accompanied by a faculty member from their school.

FACILITY: POOL - Indoor 50 meter by 25-yard pool, offering 16 lanes for short course competition. Preliminaries may be conducted in 2 pools, one for girls and the other for boys, depending on the number of entries. Only one pool will be used for Finals competition.   It is one of the fastest pools in the country with pool depth ranging from 9 feet at the shallowest to 16 feet. A separate diving area has two one-meter springboards available and water depth is 16 feet.

TIMING
: Automatic timing will be provided by Colorado Timing System with HYTEK interface on both courses. Manual back up will be used. An 8-lane scoreboard will be available for each pool if needed.

MEET FORMAT:  
All swimming events will be conducted in short course yards. This will be a combined Swimming and Diving Competition, with the diving being conducted separately from the swimming within this facility. The swimming will be conducted in a Prelims and Finals format, with the Prelims being conducted on Friday, 4 December and the Finals portion the following afternoon. There will be a 15 minute break between the 50 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Butterfly events. Swimmers will be allowed to swim down and warm-up during the 15 minute break. 
 
The diving competition will consist of an 11 dive list consisting of five voluntary dives and six optional dives. All rounds of diving will be conducted on Friday, December 4. After 5 rounds the number of divers shall be cut to 20 for each round and after 8 rounds the number of divers will be cut to 16.
 
PRACTICE: The swimming pool and diving boards will be open from 6pm-8:30pm only on Thursday, December 3, 2009 for athletes to come in and practice. On Friday, the portion of the pool away from the diving boards will be available for swimmers to warm-up beginning at 8:30am. The Aquatics Center will not be available at any other times for warm-up or practice.

Special Rules
1. Participants must equal or exceed the established qualifying times for individual swimming events in order to be eligible for the State Meet. There are no qualifying standards for relay events and diving.
 
2. If a swimmer fails to achieve qualifying time in any State Meet event, the coach must provide Proof of Performance for the entered time (a copy of meet results). Otherwise, the swimmer will be disqualified from the State Meet. A Proof of Performance clerk will be available at the head table.
 
ENTRIES:   Must be received by the meet director by Nov. 24 at 5 p.m.  Late entries will not be accepted. Print Form 47 (girls) and Form 47A (boys) PDF files from the AHSAA web site and complete or use the on line entry forms. Also, entries may be submitted using H Y-Te k.
All mailed entries must be sent by express mail (DHL, Fed EX or UPS) and received at the State Meet site by the dead line. Hy-Tek and email entries are preferred. Email entry forms to ses0032@auburn.edu. Changes cannot be made to entries after the deadline, except for errors on the part of the meet manager. Please double check your entries before submitting them.
 
It is requested that swimmer IDs for all USA-S registered swimmers be included with their entries. All requests to add USA-S swimmer IDs after the entry deadline will be charged a $5/athlete fee.
 
Dive Sheets must be submitted along with entries. Divers will not be entered into the competition unless a dive sheet has been received. Divers should use the form on the AHSAA web site to submit their lists. In accordance with NFHS rules, divers are allowed to change their list until 60 minutes prior to the start of competition. Dive lists must conform to NFHS rules for a championship meet.
 
NUMBER OF EVENTS:  A team may enter only four individuals per event and one relay team per event. A participant may enter a maximum of four events (diving events included), no more than two of which may be individual events. Over entries will be deleted from the fifth entry on.
 
Note:   Schools may enter their relay teams without individual names. It shall not count as an entry unless the competitor actually competes in the event. Any individual on the team may swim in the prelims, swim-offs and/or finals provided he/she does not exceed the permitted entries for the meet. Athletes may compete in only 4 events per competition, not per day.
            All students listed on the entry form may participate in the relays. A relay alternate may be listed beside an entry's name, but any substitution must be made prior to the start of the meet. An event may be deleted at any time. There will be no refunds for deleted events or athletes who do not compete.
 
ENTRY FEES:  $ 20 per participant (Payable to: AHSAA)
Submit entry fees when mailing entries or upon check -in at the Aquatics Center.
 
CHECK-IN:   Coaches may register and pick -up school team packets in the Office from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Only the coach may register for a team.
 
DECK ACCESS: Only participating athletes and coaches are allowed on the deck. Coaches must be AHSAA certified coaches and must present certification card to be given a wristband which will allow deck access. Participating athletes will receive a hand stamp which will allow them access to the deck. Spectators are not allowed on the deck.
 
AWARDS: (a) Trophies for winner and runner-up teams in each division
                  (b) Medals for first three places in each event
Award ceremonies will be conducted immediately following the championship race of each event. Diving awards will be handed out on Friday, following the competition.
 
ADMISSION:    $ 8 Friday
                        $10 Saturday
In/out privileges are allowed with ticket stub and hand stamp. All non-coaches or athletes wishing to enter the building on Friday or Saturday must pay the admission price.
 
COACHES’ MEETING:    A coaches’ meeting will be held 10 minutes prior to each session. Each participating school must send at least one representative. No swimmers will be allowed in the pool during this time.

AMMENITIES:  
A first aid station will be located on the pool deck and staffed by a certified athletic trainer during all competition and warm-up. Concessions will be available.

PARKING:
 Parking permit regulations will not be enforced in lots around the Aquatics Center during the meet. Cars must be parked in legal parking spaces or they are subject to ticket and/or towing. Please note that Auburn has a home men’s Basketball game on Friday, December 4 and that the basketball arena is located next door to the Aquatics Center, so parking may be limited.
