Class 4A State Volleyball Championship

Danville 2, Jacksonville 1

     Danville closed out the 2014 AHSAA State Volleyball Championships Thursday night by winning its first state championship with a 25-16, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17 triumph over defending champion Jacksonville in the Class 4A finals at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
     Coach Spencer Cole’s Hawks (51-11) jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then closed out with a strong fourth-set finish to notch the title.  Tournament MVP Sydni Shelton had 18 kills and 19 digs to lead her team.  Kellee Styles also had 18 kills and 13 digs.  Setter Charlee Anderson had 46 assists and 10 digs.
     Leading Coach David Clark’s Golden Eagles (40-10) were paced by Blessing Dunn’s 26 kills and 21 digs. Darrien Martin also had eight kills and 16 digs and Ashley Clingan had 33 assists.
