MONTGOMERY – Mortimer Jordan High School outside hitter Makayla Pharris led the Blue Devils to five wins last week, including going 4-0 to capture the championship in the Jefferson County Volleyball Tournament.
The 5-foot-11 senior had 14 kills and 14 blocks in the tourney to earn MVP honors on the way to grabbing the AHSAA Volleyball Spotlight for Week 6. The Class 5A Blue Devils (21-10) of Coach Kelsey Treadaway beat Curry earlier in the week, then reeled off victories over Pleasant Grove, Gardendale and Clay-Chalkville before beating Gardendale again in the tourney finals.
Senior setter Kayla Dollar had 46 assists and eight aces, 5-11 junior Laci Reese contributed 17 kills, eight blocks and nine service aces and junior Emma Kate Dean registered 17 digs for Mortimer Jordan.

ALYSSA DUTTON, CARBON HILL: Had 98 kills, 18 service aces, 22 blocks and 43 digs to lead Carbon Hill (47-5) to an 11-1 record for the week, including going 6-1 to win the Danville Tournament of Champions over the weekend. The Bulldogs beat two ranked teams in Class 3A and one in Class 7A during the stretch.
BRI TURNER, DAPHNE: Had 20 kills in two match wins to go over 1,000 career kills. Teammate Sydney Omtvedt also went over 1,000 career kills with 17.
POLLY GLASS, REHOBETH: Led the Lady Rebels to the Wiregrass Athletic Conference tournament title with 14 kills, two blocks and 10 digs in the championship match 25-17, 25-21 win over Wicksburg She also had seven kills and four blocks in Rehobeth’s semifinal victory over Headland.
SKYLER BENSON, PRICEVILLE: Had a career high 16 kills in a win over Tanner and finished the week with 44 kills in four wins.
ANNA GRIGGS, ARAB: Led the Lady Knights to a 9-2 record and runner-up finish in the Boaz Invitational tourney with 132 kills and 46 blocks.
SHYAN FLACK, BREWER: Managed 127 kills, 101 digs, 10 aces and 10 blocks as to Patriots went 8-2 on the week.
KENYA McQUIRTER, McGILL-TOOLEN CATHOLIC: Totaled 19 kills, 15 digs and four blocks to lead the Dirty Dozen (29-6) over defending 5A state champion St. Paul’s Episcopal for one of its two match wins.
ABBIE CHAMBLESS, ADDISON: Had 27 blocks, 74 kills, 11 aces and 63 digs as Addison won eight matches and reached the finals of Tournament of Champions at Danville.
TAYLOR WRIGHT, BUCKHORN: Recorded 27 kills and eight blocks as Buckhorn went 2-1 in three matches.
MARISSA KOCH, ST. JOHN PAUL II CATHOLIC: Had 92 kills and 65 digs in six matches.
GRACE PATTERSON, BRIARWOOD CHRISTIAN: Led the Lions to a 3-1 record with 46 kills and nine blocks.
