AHSAA Volleyball Spotlight, Week 6 Setter McKinley Ferguson Leads Jasper to 30-Match Win Streak

    MONTGOMERY – Sophomore setter McKinley Ferguson turned in an all-around performance to lead Class 6A Jasper (30-1) to nine volleyball wins last week. She had 128 assists, 84 kills, 66 digs and 25 service aces to lead the Lady Vikings of Coach Bobby Daniels to 10 wins last week and grabbed the AHSAA Volleyball Spotlight for Week 5.
      Ferguson and her Lady Vikings teammates headed into the week at 20-0 and stretched the state’s longest winning streak of the season to 30 before Daphne beat Jasper 2-1 in in the Over-the-Mountain invitational tourney hosted by Hoover High School last weekend. Alex Oliver added 66 kills, 58 digs and nine aces, and Kensley Farris contributed 45 kills, 18 blocks and 11 aces during last week’s strong showing.

KILLS/BLOCKS
PAIGE SHAW, HOOVER:
Had 84 kills, nine blocks, 31 digs and 16 service to lead Hoover (17-6) to seven wins and the title of the Over-The-Mountain Classic tournament.
ALANA COX, BOB JONES: Helped the Lady Patriots win eight of nine matches delivering 81 kills and 29 blocks.
JOSIE HUGHES, CROSSVILLE: Registered 18 kills and five aces in a match versus Scottsboro. She had 81 kills, 16 blocks and 28 aces over seven matches for the week.
LIBBY KIRBY, ST. PAUL’S EPISCOPAL: Had 37 kills, 19 digs and seven service aces in three matches for the Saints.
MEKAILA HILL, CLAY-CHALKVILLE: Had 35 kills in three wins for the Cougars.
KELSEY GIBSON, GOSHEN: Had 28 kills in a 22-25, 25-29, 20-25, 25-17, 20-18 loss to Ariton. She also had 30 kills in three matches over the weekend.
TIA ROGERS, PIKE COUNTY: Led the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over Abbeville with nine blocks, seven kills and eight assists.
LAKYN PRATT, ARITON: Totaled 21 kills and five blocks in a marathon 3-2 win over Goshen and also had 38 kills to lead the Purple Cats (17-2) to the finals of the Carroll Invitational.
POLLY GLASS, REHOBETH: Recorded 13 kills, five blocks, 14 digs and four aces in a grueling 22-25, 15-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-11 match as Rehobeth fought back from an 0-2 start to win 3-2 over Headland as the Rebels celebrated senior night.
JAMYAH JACKSON, HEADLAND: Recorded 10 blocks and eight kills in the Rams’ 3-2 loss to Rehobeth.

ASSISTS
EMILY POUNDSTONE, SAINT JAMES:
Went over 2,000 assists for her career with 42 in two matches last week.
ERIN LANGLEY, SAND ROCK: Recorded 56 assists, 17 digs and six aces in three matches to lead Sand Rock to its second consecutive Cherokee County tournament championship and seventh overall.
AINSLEY SCHULZ, VESTAVIA HILLS: Recorded 246 assists and 11 service aces in seven matches for the Rebels.
JAMIE GREGG, HOOVER: Totaled 178 assists for Hoover in a 7-0 week.
AIJA ABELE, BOB JONES: Registered 177 assists in nine matches for Bob Jones.
LIBBY GRACE GANN, MOUNTAIN BROOK: The setter had 168 assists for the Spartans in seven matches.
MOLLY KATE ATKINS, CARBON HILL: Led the Bulldogs (37-4) to seven straight wins with 165 assists, 33 digs and 24 service aces on the week.
AUTUMN BRAGWELL, BELGREEN: Had 111 assists in three wins for Belgreen.

DIGS
SAVANNAH GIBBS, HOOVER:
Had 148 digs in seven matches for the Lady Bucs.
TAYLOR BROWN, WILSON: Had 90 digs in four wins. Wilson beat two ASWA-ranked teams Deshler and Muscle Shoals. 
MADALYNN OWEN, PRICEVILLE: Had 89 digs as Priceville went 7-1 and reached the finals of the Decatur Heritage tourney.

SERVICE ACES
SYDNY OMTVEDT, DAPHNE:
Had 21 service aces in seven matches for the Trojans. She also had 55 kills and 63 digs.
EMMA DEMPSEY, BELGREEN: Served 11 aces in three match wins for Belgreen.
