AHSAA Volleyball Spotlight, Week 3 Bayside Academy Beats Spanish Fort for Coach Ann Schilling’s 1,400th Career Victory

MONTGOMERY – Bayside Academy’s Admirals’ volleyball win over Spanish Fort in the finals of the Battle of the Bay tournament last weekend was a special victory in more ways than one.
The victory was the 1,400th in the career of Coach Ann Schilling. The Admirals (12-4) and Schilling also grabbed the AHSAA Volleyball Spotlight for week three with the victory.
Schilling and the Bayside volleyball program have been among the tops in the nation for many years – winning 15 straight AHSAA state championships heading into this season and 24 overall – both are AHSAA state marks. Her career record improved to 1,400-370 after the tournament championship match Saturday. Bayside finished 8-1 for the week.
Glenda Wright is the AHSAA’s all-time career volleyball wins leader with a 1,458-593 record that spanned five decades. Wright, who spent most of her teaching and coaching career at Hazel Green, retired after 2015.
Bayside senior setter Ansleigh Dailey, who had 167 assists in nine matches last week, also recorded her 5,000th career assist and became the fourth player in AHSAA history to reach that total in her career. Huntsville’s Chelsea Wintzinger holds the AHSAA record with 7,505 assists from 2005-09. Sydney Chandler, who helped Bayside win five state titles from 2009-13, ranks second and holds the Bayside school record with 7,505 assists.  Addison’s Kali Lake also recorded 5,827 assists for the Bulldogs from 2006-09.
