2017 CLASS 7A GIRLS SEMIFINALS

Vestavia Hills 2, Oak Mountain 0

     HUNTSVILLE – Defending Class 7A state champion Vestavia Hills made the most of its four shots on goal Friday afternoon scoring on two of them as the Lady Rebels (19-1-3) beat Oak Mountain 2-0 semifinals of the AHSAA State Soccer Championships at John Hunt Park.
     Coach Brigid Littleton’s team advances to play McGill-Toolen Catholic (22-2) in Saturday’s Class 7A girls’ state championship match at noon
     Caroline Silvio scored the Rebels’ first goal at the 4:13 mark to take an early 1-0 lead. Taylor Korn’s goal at the 20:13 mark increased the Vestavia Hills lead to 2-0 at intermission. Oak Mountain (20-3-2) outshot Vestavia Hills 6-4 for the game and kept the ball in the Rebels’ end of the field most of the final 40 minutes, but could never cash in..

Vestavia goalkeeper Anna Woodson had one save on goal. The Rebels will be going for their fifth state title overall, winning past championships in 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2016. Saturday’s championship will be live-streamed by the NFHS Network.

McGill-Toolen Catholic 5, Fairhope 1

    HUNTSVILLE – McGill-Toolen Catholic downed Fairhope 5-1 in the Class 7A semifinals Friday at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park to advance to the Class 7A girls’ championship match of the 27th annual AHSAA State Soccer playoffs.
    McGill-Toolen (22-2), coached by Cheryl Flores, scored first on Chloe Martin’s goal at the  the 14:33 mark. The Yellow Jackets followed with two goals by in at halftime. Brianna Freund added another goal at the 43:52 mark to increase the Yellow Jackets lead to 5-0.
     Fairhope (15-9-1) played well in the second half, picking up its only goal at 55:13 of the contest on a shot by Ellie Brown.
      McGill-Toolen outshot Fairhope 25-2. Pirates goalkeeper Carly Huguley finished with 12 saves. McGill-Toolen keeper Eva Knapstein had one save.
