Class 1A/3A Girls Semifinals

HUNTSVILLE – Tara Katz scored two goals and had one assist Thursday to lead Montgomery Academy  (14-3-5) to 4-0 win over Holy Spirit Catholic (13-4) the 2017 AHSAA Class 1A/3A girls’ soccer semifinals at John Hunt Park.
  Play continued Thursday with semifinal contests for 1A/5A boys, 4A/5A girls and boys.
  The Lady Eagles of Coach Stuart Bonner took an early 1-0 lead when Katz set up teammate Maggie Chambers’ goal at the 6:30 mark in the first half. Virginia Meacham added a goal early in the second half, and Katz closed out the scoring with goals at 51:27 and at 75:45 to seal the win. MA goalie Dora Eskridge had four goals and Blakley Jones had 11 saves to the Titans.
   Montgomery Academy will face Westbrook Christian in the finals of the 27th annual State Tourney finals Friday at 7 p.m.

Westbrook Christian 2, Altamont 0
Westbrook Christian (19-6) advanced to the AHSAA Class 1A/3A girls’ soccer finals at John Hunt Park with a 2-0 win over Altamont in the semifinals Thursday.
    Alexis Beard broke a scoreless tie at 30:46 in the first half to five the Warriors (19-6) at 1-0 lead. Kylee Berndt added the final goal on a pass from Makenna  Beard at 38:11 and Coach Joel Hawbaker’s team led 2-0 at intermission. Westbrook relied on its strong defense to seal the victory in the second half.
       Goalkeeper Mattie Loyd had two saves, and Rachel Wright of Altamont (13-8-1) also had two saves.
        Montgomery Academy and Westbrook Christian meet in the finals of the 27th annual State Tourney finals Friday at 7 p.m. All championship matches will be live-streamed by the NFHS Network.
