Class 7A Girls Semifinals Spain Park 49, McGill-Toolen Catholic 48 (OT)

    Spain Park High School junior Claire Holt sank two free throws late in the fourth quarter to tie the Jaguars’ Class 7A State Basketball Tournament semifinal game at 43 all with McGill-Toolen Catholic and send the contest into overtime. She then hit a free throw with four seconds left to lift Spain Park to a 49-48 win and set up an all-Hoover city final on Saturday at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
     Hoover won its semifinal over Central-Phenix City earlier Thursday. Spain Park (21-11) and Hoover (28-7) will play at 4 p.m. Saturday in the 95th AHSAA State Tournament girls’ finals.
     Holt finished with 20 points, finishing 10-of-14 at the foul line, had five assists and five rebounds to pace the Jaguars.  Sarah Ashlee Barker added nine points, nine rebounds, six steals and three blocked shots to spark Spain Park’s defensive effort that helped close an 11-point deficit in the second half.  Mallory Duke also had nine points, all coming on a trio of 3-point goals.
      Shauntai Battle had 24 points, eight rebounds and six steals to lead McGill-Toolen (27-6), coached by Carla Berry.  Reanna Burroughs added 15 points and eight rebounds.
     The Class 1A girls’ championship game between defending champ Spring Garden and R.A. Hubbard will be at 4 p.m., tonight, and the Class 1A boys’ title game will close out the day at 5:45 p.m. with two-time defending champion Sacred Heart Catholic taking on South Lamar.
       Championships for boys and girls in Classes 2A, 3A and 4A are scheduled for Friday with Class 5A, 6A and 7A finals set for Saturday’s final day.
      All semifinals in the 95th AHSAA State Championships are being live-streamed by the NFHS Network, and the finals will be televised live and live-streamed by Raycom Sports. The AHSAA Radio Network is also broadcasting all games over its statewide radio network and internet link.
