Class 2A Boys Semifinals R.C. Hatch 51, Sheffield 27

    R.C. Hatch downed Sheffield 52-27 Tuesday in the Class 2A boys’ state tournament semifinals to advance  to Friday’s championship game for the first time since 2009.
    The Bobcats of Coach Home Davis won three state titles in a four-year period from 2006-09 – reaching the championship each year. The school has 10 state titles, most of any AHSAA school in state-tournament history beginning with the first in 1978.
Davis said the goal for his team all year has been to “Never quit.”
    R.C. Hatch (24-2) built a nine-point lead by halftime and then outscored the Bulldogs (23-11) in the second half 27-12 thanks to a swarming defense that forced 23 turnovers for the game.
    Jalen Lockett led the Bobcats with 12 points, Venantris Lipscomb added 11,  Tyler Rhone had 10 and Antwan Powell scored eight. Rhone also had eight rebounds, and Freddie ward had four assists.
     Malik Smith had seven points for Sheffield. JaVaria Nalls added six, Dontarius Hughes and Emmanuel Ford had five each for Coach Ski Anderson’s Bulldogs. Ford also had eight rebounds.
    The 95th AHSAA State Basketball Championships continues this week with Class 3A and Class 4A girls’ and boys’ semifinals getting underway Tuesday, Classes 5A and 6A Wednesday and Class 7A Thursday. Finals get underway Thursday Finals for 2A, 3A and 4A will be Friday and 5A, 6A and 7A finals close out the 2017 championships Saturday.
        All semifinals are being live-streamed by the NFHS Network, and the finals will be televised live by Raycom Sports. The AHSAA Radio Network is also broadcasting all games over its statewide radio network and internet link.
      The Class 2A boys’ finals are set for Friday at 10:45 a.m.
