MONTGOMERY – Raycom Network will televise Blount (10-2) vs. Park Crossing (12-0) Friday in its third installment of the Raycom/AHSAA High School Football Playoff Game of the Week. The Class 6A quarterfinal game features two schools with contrasting traditions.
Blount, located in Mobile County, won the Region 1 title this season and has a long history of playoff success with an overall playoff record of 40-19 in 24 appearances. Coach Lev Holley’s Leopards are 20-4 in his two season as head coach. Blount won state title in 1990, 1992, 1996, 1997 and 1998 while compiling an amazing 109-22 record in the 1990s – after a 38-67-1 run during the 1980s.
Park Crossing has a 27-6 record sent opening its doors in 2014. Coach Smitty Grider, who started the Thunderbirds’ program after a successful stint at Beauregard, is currently 96-39 overall. Park Crossing reached the playoffs last year in its second year losing to Bessemer City in the first round. The school’s overall playoff record is now 2-1.
Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. Play-by-play is being handled by Graham Dunn with Mike Peacock the color commentator and Christina Chambers as the sideline reporter.
The Raycom/AHSAA Playoff Game of the Week is a weekly live TV telecast over the Raycom Network’s Alabama affiliates. It will run through the first four rounds of the state playoffs. Raycom will conclude is series with the Super 7 state championship games (all classes) at Jordan-Hare Stadium at Auburn Nov. 30-Dec. 1-2.
All games will be live over the Raycom TV Network on either the main channel or Raycom’s Bounce channel and the Raycom affiliate websites as well as live on Raycom’s you tube channel on the internet. NFHS NETWORK FEATURES 12 AHSAA PLAYOFF GAMES
Twelve live-stream telecasts are set to be live-streamed Friday as part of the NFHS Network’s School Broadcast Program. McGill-Toolen’s NFHS School Broadcast Program crew will live-stream the Class 7A semifinal game featuring the defending champion Yellow Jackets (12-0) and Central-Phenix City (10-1) at Mobile, and the Hoover High School SBP broadcast team will be live-streaming Hoover (10-2) at Gadsden City (7-5) in the other Class 7A semifinal game tonight.
The headliner in the 6A quarterfinals is Opelika (11-1) at defending state champion Spanish Fort (10-2), to be live-streamed the Opelika High School NFHS School Broadcast Program. This is second year in a row the two former Lee High School players have squared off in the state playoffs. The Toros won last year’s meeting.
Ramsay (10-2) is at Minor (11-1) in another key 6A game. A special NFHS Network crew will be at that game as well as the Briarwood vs. Mortimer Jordan and the Jackson vs. St. Paul’s Episcopal Class 5A quarterfinal games.
