Defending Class 6A state girls’ soccer champion John Carroll Catholic nipped Decatur 1-0 Friday morning to advance to Saturday’s Class 6A finals of the 25th annual AHSAA State Soccer Tournament being held at Huntsville’s John Hunt Soccer Complex.
Coach Chase Zanaty’s Cavaliers (22-2-3) got the match’s only goal early in the midway through the second when sophomore forward Claire Davies scored to break the 0-0 tie. John Carroll’s strong defense did the rest – allowing only two shots by the Red Raiders (17-4-2) for the game.
Decatur goalkeeper Dakota Powell had nine saves in an outstanding effort for Coach Sara Beth Dunlap’s Red Raiders.
John Carroll will meet Northridge in the 6A championship match at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. All finals are being live-streamed over the NFHS Network Friday and Saturday.

Northridge (21-4-0) advanced to the Class 6A state girls’ finals for the first time in school history with a 1-0 win over Northview (14-6-3) Friday morning at John Hunt Soccer Complex. Senior midfielder Savannah Reier scored the winning goal just 2:58 into the second half. Senior Annika Struthwolf provided the assist.
The Jaguars, coached by Carter Hill, allowed only four shots on goal with goalkeeper Catherine Spencer had four saves. Carter also coached the Tuscaloosa school’s boys to the 6A state semifinals.
Northridge goalkeeper Catherine Spence had four saves in the shutout, and Adriana Wright of Northview, coached by Haley Williams, also had four saves.
Northridge will face defending state champion John Carroll in Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. finals.
