Huntsville’s Girls Shoot a Record 3-Under 213 To win the 6A/7A Section 4 Golf Title

      Huntsville High School’s girls’ golf team shot a 3-under par 213 at the AHSAA Class 6A/7A Section 4 golf tournament held at Canebrake Golf Course in Athens Monday to capture the section title. The team advances to sub-state play May 2 at Birmingham’s Highland Park Golf Course.
      The sub-par total for Huntsville is the lowest total reported on record in section play history.
      Muscle Shoals finished second with a 15-over 231 total and Athens, third, at 236.
     Coach Clifford Pate’s Panthers were led by eighth grader and defending Class 6A/7A state champion Michaela Morard, who fired a 3-under 69 for the 18-hole competition. Fellow eighth grader Sarah Utley and senior Emily Lankford each carded an even par 72.
    Micheala Williams of Athens shot a 4-under 68 to earn low medalist honors for the 62-player field. Fort Payne duo Ella Kate Patterson and Alexis Chambers each shot a 1-under 71. Ally Williams of Athens and Stephanie Whitman of Sparkman also carded 3-over 75’s.
   In other AHSAA Section golf action reported to the AHSAA this week:
CLASS 6A/7A, SECTION 1: Senior Virginia Green shot a 1-under 71 to earn low medalist honors helping Fairhope claim the Section 1 golf championship. Kate Dean also had an 84 and Mary Harris, 85, as the Pirates finished at 240 – 25 strokes ahead of runner-up Enterprise (265). Spanish Fort, led by Amelia Bjuro’s 5-over 77, was third at 266.

CLASS 6A/7A, SECTION 2: Hoover posted a 10-over 226 Monday to win the Section 2 team championship.  Mychael O’Berry led the Lady Bucs with a 2-under 70 over the 18-hole round. Julie Baker also shot a 77 and Carson McKie, 79 for Coach Lori Elgin’s team.
     Spain Park was second at 237 and Auburn was third at 261. Caroline Waldrop led the Jaguars with a 72, and Julian Susce shot a 77.   Cailyn Hyun of Auburn also shot a 78.
CLASS 4A/5A, SECTION 2: Helena shot a 276 to win the section championship. Sylacauga was second at 277 and Curry, third with a 349 total.   Northside’s Karlee Allen shot 70 for the meet’s low score. Grayson Gladden of Helena was second with a 74, and Erika Allen of Northside shot a 79 to round out the top individual scores.
CLASS 4A/5A, SECTION 3: White Plains won the section title with a 2-over 218.   Layne Dyar shot a 71, Hanna Dyar, 72, and Morgan Pickett, 75, for the winning Wildcats.  Alexandria was second at 258 and Fairview finished third with a 267.
     Leeds’ Robyn Blakey also shot a 78 to advance to sub-state for the Green Wave.
CLASS 4A/5A, SECTION 4:  Russellville’s girls, coached by Deedra Moore, won the team competition with a 259 total. St. John Paul II was second with 281 and Deshler, third, at 284.   Anna Fassnacht of Brooks was low medalist with a 3-under 69.  Shelby Tacon of Madison County was second at 76.
   Leading Russellville was Ashton Moore’s 82. Kaylee Bryant of Deshler also shot an 82.
CLASS 1A/3A, SECTION 3: Westbrook Christian shot a 257 to win the Class 1A-3A Section 3 girls’ title at Silver Lakes Golf Club.   Chloe Borders of Jacksonville Christian was low medalist with an 83.  Lauren Cole of Glencoe edged Ellie Porter of Westbrook for runner-up in a sudden death playoff parring on the first hole. Porter had a bogey. Both shot 83.
     Piedmont was second at 384 and Pleasant Valley was third.
CLASS 1A/3A, SECTION 4: Clements won the team title with a 361.  Makayla Browning’s 107 led the Lady Colts.   Hannah Pope of Mars Hill Bible was the low medalist shooting a 1-over 73, and Anna Seahorn of Red Bay was second with an 81.
