CLASS 4A GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP Deshler 60, Sipsey Valley 46

        Defending Class 4A AHSAA state girls’ basketball champion Deshler made it two in a row Friday with a 60-46 victory over Sipsey Valley. The Lady Tigers (36-1) broke open a game tied 30-30 at halftime with a third-quarter rally that led to a 54-37 lead at the BJCC Legacy Arena heading into the final period of the 2016 Class 4A State Finals.
       Coach Jana Killen’s Tigers forced 12 second-half turnovers to seal Deshler’s seventh state title overall and sixth since 2003.   Sophomore center Karleigh Sledge scored 21 points, had 14 rebounds, five steals and five blocked shots to spark the rally and earned MVP honors for the 4A state tourney.  Nicole Shirley added 17 points, four steals and four assists and Aliyah Peters had seven points and eight rebounds.
      Sipsey Valley (28-6), coached by Jerome Elliott, was led by senior guard Charity Brown’s 19 points and three assists. Queen Ford also had 10 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots for the Bears, making their first appearance in the state finals.
    The AHSAA State Finals championship games resume Saturday at the BJCC Legacy Arena with championship games  Classes 5A, 6A and 7A) to close out the 94th AHSAA State Basketball Finals.
