AHSAA Moves Central Basketball Regional Girls and Boys 1A Finals to Thursday Afternoon

The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Regional Basketball Tournament Class 1A girls’ and boys’ championship games scheduled for tonight at 6:30 and 8:15 p.m. have been postponed until Thursday, AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese announced Tuesday.
He said the decision was made to make the adjustment due to the weather conditions expected through Central Alabama later tonight. All other Tuesday games, including the final two Class 4A semifinal games, the 7A girls’ finals and 7A boys’ finals, are set to be completed as scheduled.
The Class 1A championship games at Alabama State University’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome have been rescheduled for 4 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., respectively and will conclude the 2016 tournament’s final session. The Central Regional’s Wednesday games and Thursday games will remain as scheduled.
All other regional sites are continuing as scheduled.
“We made this decision based on the EMA’s current weather conditions,” Savarese said. “We had hoped this would not be necessary, but at this time, this is in the best interest of our teams, schools and communities.”
The AHSAA will continue to monitor the weather conditions. Any changes in the schedules will be posted at www.ahsaa.com and should updates become necessary, that information will also be posted.
