MONTGOMERY –Wadley High School has been fined, placed on probation for one year, and ordered to forfeit seven varsity boys basketball games for violating the AHSAA transfer rule. The school self-reported the violation.|
Wadley played an ineligible student in violation of the “Transfer Rule” specifically “Bona-Fide Move Rule”.  The school must forfeit all contests its team won in which the student participated.  Forfeits include Class 1A, Area 8 one win each over Talladega County Central and Alabama School for the Deaf and one win over Victory Christian. Wadley also must forfeit four non-area wins: one each to Beulah and Woodland and two to Horseshoe Bend.
The Class 1A, Area 8 tournament bracket will reflect the forfeits. Wadley moves to fifth seed and will play fourth seed Victory Christian Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the site of Area 8 champion Winterboro. Third seed Alabama School for the Deaf will now play second seed Talladega County Central Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. and top seed Winterboro will play the winner of Saturday’s Wadley-Victory Christian game at 5:30 p.m. The area tournament finals remain set for Feb. 13 at 3 p.m.
The probationary period is a warning that other violations of this nature could bring further sanctions against the school.
