AHSAA Mourns Death of High School Coach & Baseball Umpire Don McNabb

      The Alabama High School Athletic Association was saddened to learn of the recent death of Northridge High School assistant football coach and AHSAA baseball umpire Donald E. McNabb, Jr., 60, of Tuscaloosa. Coach McNabb died on August 12 at UAB Hospital He was a teacher and coach for 38 years in the Tuscaloosa Community having taught and coached at Tuscaloosa Academy, Tuscaloosa County High, Tuscaloosa Middle School, Central High School and Northridge High School.
      The funeral service will be Sunday, August 16, at Circlewood Baptist Church with Dr. Herbert Thomas and Pastor Jeremy Burrage officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
      Coach McNabb is survived by his wife of 41 years, Charlotte McNabb; a daughter, April Allen, grandchildren, Ansley and Caleb Allen; brother, Bill McNabb.
       He was a teacher and coach for 38 years in the Tuscaloosa Community having taught and coached at Tuscaloosa Academy, Tuscaloosa County High, Tuscaloosa Middle School, Central High School and Northridge High School. He also was an AHSAA baseball umpire for 30 years, an Ensley High School and University of Alabama graduate.
        Honorary pallbearers are the players and coaches of Northridge High School; Tuscaloosa City Schools; Druid City Baseball Umpires Association; and UA Athletics.
        In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude; Big Oak Ranch; Hospice of West Alabama; Circlewood Baptist; or The Word Community Church.
