CLASS 7A Boys State Soccer Championships

Oak Mountain 3, Auburn 0
Oak Mountain High School’s boys’ soccer team gave the Shelby County school a sweep winning the AHSAA Class 7A boys’ state soccer championship Saturday beating Auburn 3-0 in the finals.
Coach Dan DeMasters’ Eagles (23-4-1) scored three goals in the last 14 minutes of the championship match Saturday afternoon at Huntsville’s John Hunt Soccer Complex to break open what had been a fierce but scoreless defensive battle with the Tigers (15-9-3).
Carl Davis got the first goal at 66:08 and James “Trig” Langner followed four minutes later with the second goal on an assist from Davis.  Clayton McDonald closed out the scoring at 73:48 with the final goal.
Langner was named MVP of the 7A championship match.
Auburn, coached by Bill Ferguson, had only two shots for the match and not shots on goal.  Keeper Tim Mixson had two saves for the Tigers.
Oak Mountain’s girls beat Auburn 2-1 in a final that came down to a shootout to claim the girls’ 7A state title earlier Saturday.
The state title was fifth for Oak Mountain’s boys with the four previous titles coming in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011.
