CLASS 6A Girls State Soccer Championship

 

John Carroll Catholic 5, Daphne 0
     John Carroll Catholic High School downed Daphne 5-0 in the AHSAA Class 6A girls’ state soccer championship match Saturday at Huntsville’s John Hunt Soccer Complex.
      The state title was the third  girls’ soccer championship in school history and the second in a row for Coach Chace Zanaty’s Lady Cavaliers (16-4-2).  John Carroll won the 5A state crown in 2014 but moved up to 6A this season. John Carroll also won the 5A state championship in 2000.
    Camryn Lyster, named the Class 6A girls’ championship game MVP, scored a hat trick in the finals with the match’s first goal at 12:39 followed by a goal at 51:52 and 76.45.  Her last goal was a corner kick from the left corner of the field that sailed high and untouched over the Daphne goalkeeper’s head and landed untouched in the right corner of the net.
     She had an assist on John Carroll’s second goal – a kick by Claire McPherson at the end of the first half.  Lindsey Flemming scored the other Cavaliers’ goal at 63:05.
    Daphne (11-8-0), coached by Dean Logan, managed just one shot on goal by team leading scorer Rachael Lane.
    The 6A girls’ championship and 7A boys’ championship matches closed out the 2015 AHSAA state soccer championships, the 25th in the association’s history dating back to 1991.
