CLASS 1A-3A Girls State Championship

Montgomery Academy 10, West Morgan 1
     Montgomery Academy (21-1-2) scored eight first-half goals to post a 10-1 victory over West Morgan (16-7-0) Friday night in the AHSAA 2015 Class 1A-3A girls’ state soccer finals at John Hunt Park.
    The title was the fifth in MA history and second in a row for Coach J.A. Stuart Bonner’s Eagles.
    Senior midfielder Brenna Katz earned MVP honors of the championship match. The leader of the Eagles’ defense scored one of two second-half and assisted on another.
     Cari Budny scored the first two goals for Montgomery Academy in the first six minutes of the match. Tara Katz, Brenna Katz’s eighth-grade sister, also had two goals and three assists. Maggie Chambers added two goals, Gracie Truelove and Mead Robertson had one goal each. Truelove also had two assists.
    West Morgan, coached by Brandon Rice, was in its first soccer championship match in school history. The Lady Rebels scored 19 goals in four playoff matches. Christen Sistrunk got West Morgan’s only goal with an assist from Brianna Thorne. Goalkeeper Krystyn Chambers had six saves and Dora Eskridge, Montgomery Academy’s keeper, had two.
