CLASS 6A BOYS SEMIFINALS

Northview 6, Benjamin Russell 1
    Sophomore Jesus Escalera scored two goals and had one assist Friday to spark Northview of Dothan to a 6-1 victory over Benjamin Russell in  the 2015 AHSAA Class 6A state boys’ soccer semifinals.
    The Cougars (17-4-1) of Coach Joe Nelson posted three goals in each half with Escalera notching both of his goals at 18:48 and 34:53 of the first half, respectively.  Freshman Miguel Gallegos added the third first-half goal.
    Grant Hudson’s goal 2:26 into the second half for Benjamin Russell (19-4-4) cut Northview’s lead to 3-1. The Cougars finished in a flourish, however, with Fredy Fernandez-Escalera, Bryan Fernandez-Escalera and Benjamin Dowd netting one goal each in the final 14 minutes of the match.  The final two goals came in the last 40 seconds.
    Wildcats goalkeeper Scott Sturdivant had two saves and Northview keeper Coby Neenan also had two saves.
    Northview will face Fort Payne in the 6A championship match Saturday at Huntsville’s John Hunt Soccer Complex at 10 a.m. The match will be live-streamed over the NFHS Network. Details on how to subscribe to the live video webcast can be found at the following link:

Fort Payne 1, Pelham 0
   
Freshman Evan McPherson scored the match’s only goal just 18:02 into the AHSAA Class 6A boys state soccer semifinal Friday and the Wildcats defense did the rest as the Wildcats advanced to the state finals.
    Fort Payne (19-1-4), coached by Jessie Gamez, will face Northview in the championship match Saturday at 10 a.m.
    Pelham (16-8-3) could manage only three shots on goal, all stopped by Fort Payne goalkeeper Luis Ramirez.
    Pelham goalkeeper Andrue Ham had three saves.
    Fort Payne won the Class 5A state championship in 2011 but will be playing in the 6A finals for the first time in school history.
