West Morgan 4, Altamont 2
    Junior Brianna Thorne scored a hat trick as the Lady Rebels (16-6-0) reached the AHSAA Class 1A-3A State Soccer Championships’ girls finals with a semifinal win over Altamont (8-8-4).
     The victory sends West Morgan into the finals Friday night at 6 p.m. at John Hunt Soccer Complex at Huntsville against defending state champion Montgomery Academy.
     West Morgan, coached by Brandon Rice, scored its first two goals in a span of 64 seconds. Thorne tied the match at 1-1 on an assist from Maribel Delgado at the 25:39 mark and teammate Meredith Bates put West Morgan ahead for good scoring at 26:43.  Thorne, who had five shots on goal, got her two other goals in a 3:13 stretch of the second half.
    Altamont senior Meridith Beretta opened the scoring at 20:16 in the first half with the Lady Knights’ first goal. Sophie Sabri had the final goal on a pass from Altamont teammate Kim Sephaphathi. 
    Goalkeeper Krystyn Chambers had six saves for West Morgan and Altamont keeper Katie Wright had nine.

Montgomery Academy 3, Holy Spirit Catholic 1
The Lady Eagles (20-1-2) overcame a 1-0 deficit at the half with three goals in the final 45 minutes to advance to the Class 1A-3A state soccer finals with the semifinal win over Holy Spirit Catholic (20-3-1) Thursday at John Hunt Soccer Complex.
    Coach J.A. Stuart Bonner’s team out-shot the Titans 25-6 – eventually wearing down upset-minded  Holy Spirit in the second half. Sisters Tara and Brenna Katz accounted for all three goals – the first two by Tara, an eighth grader, and the final one by Brenna, a senior.
     Jordan Richmond opened the scoring at 26:45 with her 63rd goal of the season for the Titans. That lone goal stood until Tara Katz tied the match at 50:14 in the second half on an assist from Cari Budny. Her second goal came 21:15 later with Elizabeth Robertson feeding the assist. Maggie Chambers’ pass set up Brenna Katz’s final goal with 37 seconds remaining in the match.
    Goalkeeper Blakley Jones had 13 saves for Holy Spirit. Dora Eskridge of Montgomery Academy four saves on goal.
