Class 4A Boys Semifinals Westminster Christian 41, Straughn 37

 

     Westminster Christian (21-11) handed veteran coach Ronnie Stapler the 699th win of his high school coaching career Tuesday night with a 41-37 victory over Straughn in the semifinals of the AHSAA Class 4A boys state tournament.
     Playing the semifinals for the first time in school history, the Wildcats relied on tough defense to seal the win.  Trey Petty scored 14 points and Tysean Whitehead added eight points and seven rebounds.
    Straughn (21-9), coached by Lomax Andrews, shot 51.7 percent from the field but was limited to only 29 field-goal tries. Steve Lawless had nine points for the Tigers and Brice Scott added eight. He also had seven rebounds. Rollin Kinsaul chipped in seven points and four steals in a strong defensive effort as well.
    Westminster will play in the Class 4A boys’ state finals Friday night at the BJCC Legacy Arena. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
