Week 4 Has Two Calls Reversed in 6 Challenges for Schools Using AHSAA’s DVSport Instant Replay

Current Season Reversal Percentage is 23.1%

MONTGOMERY – Five of the seven AHSAA varsity high school football contests using DVSport Instant Replay last week had a total of six challenges with two calls reversed, reports AHSAA Director of Officials Mark Jones.

The Week 4 report had two games without any challenges. The reversed calls were as follow, said Jones.
Opelika vs. Central-Phenix City: Opelika challenged a Central receiver’s knee was on the ground when a pass was caught.  After review the run after the catch was reversed to the spot of the catch as video showed the knee was on the ground.
Dora vs. Lawrence County: On a fourth down play, Dora was ruled short of the line to gain a first down.  After review, forward progress was made beyond the line to gain and Dora was awarded a first down.
Other reviews were catch/no catch and breaking plane of goal line.
A total of 26 calls on the field have been reversed this season with six, or 23.1%, have been reversed. The 23.1% represents a slight increase from 20% rate after week three.
DVSport Instant Replay is in its second year of implementation. The NFHS has granted the AHSAA a three-year period to experiment with instant replay in regular season games.
Jones reported that 26 Instant Replay reviews this fall have consisted of the following:
