Class 5A State Baseball Championship Series Game 3: Springville 9, Briarwood Christian 3

MONTGOMERY – Springville’s Tigers rallied from Thursday’s 5-4 setback at Paterson Field in game one of the AHSAA Class 5A State Baseball Championship Series to win two straight Friday at Riverwalk Stadium to claim the school’s first state title since 1992.
Coach Jonathan Ford’s Tigers (34-7) won game two 12-9 and then sealed the championship with a 9-3 win in the third and deciding game.      That was all pitcher Braden Hughes would need. He hurled seven strong innings in the final game, scattering six hits and striking out two to get the win. He also had one hit and two RBIs in the game three and had two hits and three RBIs in game 2.
Brant Brown also had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers in game three lead-off hitter Brandon Daniels had two hits, scored twice and one RBI. He also made an exceptional catch in the final inning to record out two.
