Red Bay’s defense limited Holy Spirit to only three field goals in the second half Monday to break open a close game in the Class 2A girls’ semifinals en route to a 49-33 win. The Lady Tigers (24-9) outscored the Lady Titans (24-3) 27-24 at intermission. Darby Madden had 18 points and Allie Kennedy 15 to pace Coach Donnie Roberts’ Red Bay team. The win was No. 834 for Roberts, the AHSAA’s all-time girls’ basketball coaching leader at 834-347 in 42 seasons. Morgan Pierce also had 11 rebounds, four points and four assists. Pacing Holy Spirit (24-3) were Caroline Sisson and Victoria Lavender with nine points each. Coach Char-Lette Jones-Pruitt is in her second year as head coach. Red Bay, which won state championships in 1979, 1980, 1987, 1993 and 2001, lost in the 2A state finals to Woodland last year. The 2A girls’ finals is scheduled Friday morning at 9 a.m.
