Geneva County (24-8) jumped out to a 10-point lead by halftime and held off a strong Section rally in the fourth quarter to win the AHSAA Class 2A girls semifinal basketball battle at the BJCC’s Legacy Arena 51-46. The Lions (22-7), coached by Joey Swinford, closed to four in the final quarter outscoring Coach Chris Ward’s Bulldogs 18-8. Lacy Stafford scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Geneva County to its first state championship appearance versus Red Bay Friday morning at 9 a.m. Stafford also hit a couple of key free throws down the stretch. Tamya Hillard added 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Alexa Boutwell chipped in10 points. Keneta Morris had 15 points with three 3-pointers for Section. Autumn Hicks also had three treys and finished with 13 points. Morris also had eight rebounds.
