Benjamin Russell Claims Class 6A North Sub-State Golf Title Behind Matthew Cash’s 1-under 71

CLASS 6A SUB-STATE NORTH BOYS
   
Benjamin Russell High School shot  309 team total to win the Class 6A North Sub-State boys’ golf championship. Matthew Cash shot a 1-under 71 to earn low medalist honors for the Wildcats, and Jacob Scott had a 75.
    Gulf Shores was second at 312 with Tyler Bjorgum posting a 75 at the Cider Ridge Golf Course at Oxford. Spanish Fort’s Andy Reier and Calera’s Chase Nall qualified as individuals with rounds of 75 each.
    The top two teams and top two individual qualifiers advance to the AHSAA State Golf Championships at Prattville’s Robert Trent Jones Capital Golf Club May 13-14.
    In other sub-state play Tuesday:

CLASS 6A SUB-STATE SOUTH GIRLS
   
UMS-Wright won the Class 6A North Sub-State girls’ title with a 264 team score. Spanish Fort was second at 310. The low medalist score of 79 belonged to Lauren Gilchrist of the winning Bulldogs.
    Ella Kate Hewes of Daphne qualified as the top individual with an 87, and Macey Martin of Helena was the other qualifier with a round of 88.


CLASS 6A SUB-STATE NORTH GIRLS
   
Northridge’s Caroline MacVicar recorded a 3-under 69 to lead her team to the sub-state championship. Northridge finished with a 228 team total.   Kate MacVicar added a 78 and Mary Katherine Lee rounded out the scoring with an 81.

    Muscle Shoals captured runner-up with  247 total. Anna Margaret Hays shot 1-under 71 to finish with the second best round.  Jinger Heath of Hartselle shot a 73 and Aubrie Cagle of Hazel Green had an 80 to earn the two individual qualifier spots.

CLASS 4A/5A SUB-STATE GIRLS
   
Randolph senior Michael Morard shot a 3-under 69 to earn low medalist and the Raiders posted a 246 total to claim the North sub-state championship. Bella Duesing also had an 81 for Randolph.
    Arab was five strokes back at 251 to earn second place. Grace Narrell shot a 75 to pace the Knights. Hanna Dyar of White Plains shot a 75 and Lauren Wilson of Fairview had a 76 to earn the two individual qualifier spots in next week’s state tournament at Prattville.
