Sumter Central Draws Fine, Forfeits 3 Games
Sumter Central High School has been fined $1,000, ordered to forfeit three football games and its football team has been placed on restrictive probation by the AHSAA for the remainder of the 2011 season for violation of eligibility rules.
The school used two ineligible players against Choctaw County, West Blocton and John Essex in violation of the Transfer Rule, the Academic Rule and the Dressing Out Rule. The three games, all victories, must be forfeited.
The restrictive probation, which prohibits a school from participation in the AHSAA championship program, is in effect for the 2011 season as long as Sumter Central allows Coach Andre Pickering, who provided false information to the AHSAA during its investigation, to coach the football team.
The fine can be reduced to $300 if Sumter Central administrators and the entire coaching staff participate in two professional development sessions with Spence McCracken, the AHSAA’s mentoring instructor, prior to December 1, 2011.
