Birmingham Station Sets Concussion Awareness Day

CBS 42, the AHSAA’s TV partner that broadcasts the state football and basketball championships, will dedicate Wednesday, Nov. 16, to educating the public about concussions, including prevention and dealing with the effects.

The Birmingham television station’s first Concussion Awareness Day will feature a two-hour phone bank for viewers to call and discuss concussions with a panel of experts.

The panel includes Dr. Jim Johnston, a pediatric neurosurgeon; Dr. Kimberly Gran, a pediatric emergency medicine physician; Drew Ferguson, a certified athletic trainer and Director of UAB Sports Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Alabama; and Haley Vance, a certified registered nurse practitioner (CRNP) in pediatric neurosurgery.

The phone bank will be open from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and the number to call is 205-488-4260.

CBS 42 will also feature concussion-related stories on its website, www.cbs42.com.

CBS 42 will televise the AHSAA Super Six Football Championships Dec. 1-2 and the Final 48 Basketball Championships March 1-3.
